Abstract :- Gas hold-up, Liquid side mass transfer coefficient (KLa) and scale up studies have been investigated for the constant head of fluid, counter-current flow of liquid in the draft tube, co-current & counter-current flow of liquid in the annular portion with respect to the gas flow rate in the multi-stage air lift reactor(MSALR). At higher gas flow rate, the gas hold-up was significantly higher for each stage in the counter current flow of liquid in the draft tube as compared to others flow conditions. Similarly the liquid side mass transfer coefficient KLa was significantly higher for the counter-current flow of liquid with respect to gas flow rate. The power input per unit volume of liquid has also been studied for the scale up of MSALR.
