Abstract – The purpose of this paper is to emphasis on the requirement of regulatory body for private coaching industry. Private coaching industry is the industry with no government registration, No Government Norms & No VAT. The Yearly revenue of this industry is more than 1 lakh crore & the average growth rate for the past six year is a whopping 35%. The current size of private coaching industry in India is about
$45 billion & is likely to touch $70 billion by 2017. This multibillion dollar industry needs to follow some accepted norms & regulations as this become alternate form of education in the country.
Key words: Regulatory Body, Private coaching Industry, Indian Education systems
INTRODUCTION
Coaching is a term used for private coaching institution which run parallel to school or prepare students for not only engineering, Medical, MBA, GRE, Banking jobs entrance tests, but also teach subjects like English for employment in India & Abroad.
Most of the private coaching institutions run in metros like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore & Chennai for Civil services; Law, C.A. or medical coaching urban towns like Jaipur, Chandigarh & Kota for engineering; Pune for designing & management etc. In Punjab English language is taught by coaching institutes for foreign visa aspirants to get the right IELTS score for their applications.
Every year more than 12 lakhs candidates appear in JEE Mains whereas 1.2 lakhs candidates are shortlisted for JEE Advance & only 37 thousand get entry into IITs. Over 6 lakhs students took pre medical test for only 50 thousand seats. 7000, 12th standard candidates compete only for 80 seats in the National Law School of India University. 2 lakhs graduates write CAT for mere 3000 seats in 6 IIMs. However almost everyone is attending the coaching classes to be the winner.
Today Scenario Coaching is must
No one can crack the entrance exam without coaching. Every person who is now on the post of IAS, IES, Bank Manager have taken coaching by paying heavy expansive in the institute that means if a person cannot afford the expensive of coaching institutes, he will not become an IAS, IES, Bank Manager thats create Discrimination in education among Poor & Rich people as
there is no norms in coaching institutes to award scholarship to poor.
What should be and what shouldnt be in Coaching Institute?
-
Coaching institutes give emphasis on theory part of the subject. It should give stress on the practical part of the subject. Coaching institutes must mean for smart class & practical aspects of the subject.
-
Coaching institutes provide some tricks to solve questions. These all tricks are good but students fail to evolve own trick to solve questions.
-
Teacher Student ratio is too large to that specified by MHRD. The no. is so large that microphone is required in the class room. That ratio should be requisite so that each student learns effectively.
-
In coaching institute, students are taught for continuously 6 hours with no example & no story.
-
The environment of class room is too pressurizing that if the student couldnt crack the entrance exam, he will definitely attempt suicide There should be some meditation class in-between the classes.
-
Coaching institutes runs at night also. There is no safety for girl/ladies students. The coaching institute restricted to day time only.
Coaching institute is located at only some specific region. If anyone wants at take coaching the student have to leave his family & to live near the coaching institute instead of that they must provide live video so that anyone from anywhere takes advantages of coaching.
Why Coaching institutes are successful?
With too many shortcomings the coaching institutes are so successful because the education system has made their pattern such that only the students who have done coaching can crack the exam.
Truth behind the success story
What we read in newspaper Vendors son/daughter, Rickshaw pullers son/daughter becomes an IAS, IES or Bank Manager; this is the success story but not a story of the candidate success; it is the success story of candidates family because candidates family do lot of efforts for arranging the expensive of their son/daughter coaching.
CONCLUSION
There is a need to improve the standard of school education so that the need for coaching becomes redundant. There must be a regulatory body for coaching institution to ensure that these institutions maintain best practices and charge regulated fees. An online portal may be set up for students to take mock tests while preparing for entrance exam. The Corporate and the Government can use the services of good schools as well as good coaching themselves to set up online coaching classes with interactivity.
